On March 24, 2008, Nigel Goldenfeld was invested with a Swanlund Endowed Professorship at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His acceptance speech was entitled "Collective Effects", and described his interests in this topic, as well as acknowledging that the work which led to his award was in itself a "collective effect".
