About me

I am a postdoc in the Department of Physics and the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology, University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign.  I am in the theoretical physics research group of Nigel Goldenfeld

In my physics research, I have shown that the laminar-turbulent transition is connected with directed percolation and extreme value statistics.  In my biology research, I use stochastic methods to model rapid evolution and spatial structure in microbe-virus ecosystems.  More generally, I am interested in applications of statistical mechanics to biology, ecology and non-equilibrium physical systems such as fluid turbulence.
